Originating when guitarist Rick Nielson and bass guitarist Tom Petersson formed Fuse in 1967 then eventually becoming Cheap Trick in 1972, the band has certainly left its mark on American pop rock. However, their first successes took off in Japan in 1977 with their second album, In Color. It wasn’t until 1979 when Cheap Trick began to see mainstream success in the United States with their album Cheap Trick at Budokan. It was this album that introduced the US charts to the hit “I Want You to Want Me” that topped the charts in 1979.
Through the years, the band has continually toured and created new music. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 in honor of their pioneering sound in the American rock space. Over their career, Cheap Trick has earned more than 40 international gold and platinum certifications.
